Over ten years ago, I had finished graduate school and was looking for a job. It wasn't going very well. Shortly thereafter, my mom, Sydney, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was luckily able to continue working throughout this ordeal. I was living at home and was able to help support her through this tough challenge. During this time, she decided that she would hire me to create scrapbooks with all of her family photos. We organized them and researched the best way to archive things.
In the end we had many large books full of family faces, memories, and information. I tried to write down any details recorded on the backs of the photos, including identifying individuals, dates, and locations. I consulted with Mom if she thought she had something to add that wasn't readily obvious.
It was always Mom's intent to share the pages of these books with her siblings, children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. I have been scanning the books' pages into digital form and posting them into FamilySearch.org. I am also starting this blog to post the original scans from each page of the scrapbooks so all family members can have easy access.
I intend to try and tag by last name (and sometimes first name) any individual or family mentioned on a page. That should make it easier to find what you are looking for as the blog grows. If you have suggestions or comments, please let me know.
Enjoy!
